Founded in 1851 before Minnesota became a state, the University of Minnesota’s discoveries have changed lives, from life-saving medical breakthroughs to innovations in agriculture, industry and the environment. Today, that legacy lives on through the people who make the University of Minnesota  extraordinary — the students, faculty,  staff, alumni and retirees whose work reaches every corner of Minnesota, our nation and world.

Across Minnesota, from Extension offices in all 87 counties to community clinics, research centers and local industry partnerships, we show up where it matters most. As a land-grant institution and one of the state’s most vital public assets, the University contributes $11.5 billion annually to the economy while preparing students to succeed through hands-on, real-world learning that connects education to opportunity and impact.

Through our Elevate Extraordinary strategic roadmap, we are building on this foundation with a bold vision, expanding our impact in health, agriculture, technology and sustainability.
