IHI Receives Seven Years of Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIMM) recently awarded the University of Minnesota Institute for Health Informatics (IHI) Master’s Degree Program initial accreditation for seven years.

CAHIMM accredits associate and baccalaureate degree programs in health information management, and masters’ degree programs in the health informatics and health information management professions in the United States and Puerto Rico. The accreditation process includes a comprehensive self-assessment and an on-site evaluation. The report from the on-site evaluation goes to the CAHIMM Accreditation Council Review for consideration, then the CAHIMM Board of Directors for the final vote on accreditation.

IHI's on-site evaluation took place in January 2022. Over a two-day period, the CAHIMM team conducted a thorough examination involving 26 detailed standards including assessment of the program and its curriculum, autonomy and governance, and resources including professional development, finances, student advisement and more.

“The successful outcome of this accreditation process is a testimony to the work and dedication of the IHI faculty, students and staff who contributed to the development and maintenance of this program. We are grateful to the Dean of the Medical School and VP of Clinical Affairs Dr. Jakub Tolar for his valuable input and support in the accreditation process and the on-site review," said Constantin Aliferis, MD, PhD, FACMI, director of IHI.
